Individual and Family Therapy
About Me
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (GA License #2835) who has been working with children, adolescents, and adults for over 25 years. I provide individual and family therapy to children 10 years old and older, adolescents, and adults.
I received my Masters of Social Work Degree from the University of Georgia School of Social Work. I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree from SUNY StonyBrook in New York where I had a double major in Psychology and Social Science Interdisciplinary.
I have worked in a variety of settings including adolescent and adult units in psychiatric hospitals; elementary schools; adolescent drug and alcohol day treatment programs; drug and alcohol treatment center for adult professionals; residential treatment program for adolescents including working on a unit for adolescent male sex offenders; juvenile probation offices; juvenile court; community mental health center; and private practice.
I have assisted in the development of the first Juvenile Drug Court in Georgia and the first rural Juvenile Drug Court in the nation. I have facilitated the development of a “Drug Free School Zone” in an elementary school in New York, and developed and facilitated an adolescent substance abuse program for adolescents involved in the juvenile justice system. I have received extensive training in the treatment of adolescent sex offenders. I have facilitated groups in residential and outpatient treatment environments that focus on the treatment of adolescent male sex offenders, and continue to work with adolescent males and females in individual and family therapy who have engaged in sexually inappropriate behavior. I provide therapy to adults who have been court-mandated for therapy due to substance abuse issues, and to adolescents who have been court-mandated for therapy due to substance abuse issues or sexually inappropriate behavior.
Theoretical Orientation
Since every person is unique the therapy I provide is tailored to the specific strengths, backgrounds, and issues of each individual client. I often incorporate elements from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Reality Therapy, Behavior Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. I usually provide clients with homework assignments as part of their therapy with me. I feel that what happens between sessions is just as important as what happens during the session. The homework assignments are designed specifically to help the client gain the most from therapy and reach goals more quickly.
